Yes, absolutely. I’ve developed skills in making sport more accessible for people facing barriers, including those with additional physical or learning needs, girls, young carers and young people from low-income families.
One of my proudest moments was running a secondary school inclusive sports festival. A teacher told me that two wheelchair-using students said they “would be able to do anything,” and by the end of the event they said they “can do these things.” Seeing their confidence grow so quickly – and hearing staff say they had “happy tears” – showed the real impact of what we do.
I have worked for the Sports Trust for the last four years. It’s been amazing since day one and has given me the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally while being part of something really meaningful.

Everything we do is driven by giving back to the community, which often requires creative, outside-the-box thinking. Each project is unique, and that means we can’t just copy and paste ideas — we have to adapt and innovate.
A big part of my role is creating welcoming spaces where people feel comfortable and included. We regularly see climbers and skaters say how safe and accepted they feel. We make it for them, especially for groups who may not have felt that sport was for them before.
Yes. Opening and developing the climbing gym was a huge challenge that pushed me significantly. I’ve also improved my coaching skills and completed further qualifications to make the space more accessible and expand what we can offer.
I’ve been involved with the Sports Trust since I was 16 through work experience and supporting sessions at our Holiday Camps. It all started through my basketball coach, who encouraged me to get involved at the camps, now I work full time at Folkestone51.
I’d say it’s a great job with a rewarding environment, I love my job. It’s a place that gives you good values and a sense of purpose, while still being enjoyable day to day.
I see my work making a difference by giving young kids opportunities they might not otherwise have. Whether it’s sport, activities or new experiences, it’s about helping them get involved, build confidence and enjoy what they’re doing.
Yes, 100%. I’ve learned to coach different activities, including skating, climbing and sea sports, so I can support a wide range of sessions.
Starting as work experience and working my way up to supervisor, I’ve also developed leadership and organisation skills, especially as I’ve grown into more responsibility.
My proudest moment has been becoming a manager and seeing how far I’ve come at such a young age. I’m also really proud of seeing kids enjoy sessions, improve their skills, and hearing positive feedback from both children and parents.
I’ve been a permanent member of staff for around a year, but my connection with The Sports Trust and F51 goes back much further. Before joining full-time, I was involved as a skateboard coach and ambassador, delivering sessions in schools and communities. From the beginning, it’s been something I’ve felt passionate about and wanted to be part of.

I previously started a project in Dover focused on improving health and wellbeing through wheel sports and skateboarding, so joining The Sports Trust felt like a natural fit. For me, it’s about helping make F51 a true community hub. Through events, programmes and outreach, we’re creating spaces where people feel welcome, connected and supported. Seeing the community come together through skateboarding and wheel sports is incredibly rewarding.
Absolutely. The role has pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow in areas like communication, management and forward planning. There’s always support from the team, and you only have to ask for help or guidance.

It’s flown by, not because the work hasn’t been challenging, but because of how much we’ve achieved and how much the organisation has grown in that time. Being part of that evolution has been really special.
